As the midsize sedan in Kia's lineup, the Optima is positioned between the economical Rio and the luxurious Amanti. Despite very aggressive pricing, the Optima competes in a hotly contested segment. A standard 138-bhp 2.4L I-4 can be swapped with a 170-bhp 2.7L V-6. The 4-cylinder is available with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic, while the V-6 is equipped with the automatic only. Both engines suffer a power deficit compared to those in other comparable sedans. Standard equipment levels are high in upper level models, especially when price is considered.
