Saturn has an innovative coupe in the ION, with its rear-opening mini doors and dent- resistant plastic body panels. Although the ION is sleek and attractive on the outside, the interior center dash-mounted gauges are difficult to use when driving. If the standard 145-bhp 2.2L I-4 doesn't have enough muscle, it can be replaced with the optional 175-bhp 2.4L in the ION-3. A supercharged 2.0L I-4 engine with 205-bhp provides extra thrust to the performance-oriented ION Redline, which is only available with a 5-speed manual. Buyers looking for sporty styling and reasonable value may find the ION a good deal, although the odd interior ergonomics may be a deal breaker.

What Changed:

Horsepower and torque ratings are up slightly in the base Ecotec 2.2L and upgraded 2.4L Ecotec. The supercharged 2.0L is unchanged.
