Infiniti
The all-new 2017 QX30, which was created for a new generation of premium buyers who appreciate category-defying design inside and out, boasts a purposeful appearance that makes a bold visual statement as part of Infiniti's premium model line-up. Remaining true to the powerful and elegant design cues that guided the original QX30 Concept, the car's highly sculpted exterior, unique crossover stance and asymmetric cabin design exemplify Infiniti's design-led approach to product development.
In addition to its striking appearance, the QX30 offers confidence-inspiring handling and an available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system. As a result, the QX30 is ideal to take on urban, suburban and winding rural roads in all driving conditions.
"The all-new QX30 is an exciting addition to the line-up for 2017, expanding the Infiniti brand to a wider range of customers," said Randy Parker, vice president, Infiniti Americas. "It offers truly standout styling, a level of refinement usually reserved for more expensive luxury segments and the agile, exhilarating dynamic performance that has been an Infiniti trademark for more than 25 years."
The new QX30 holds a unique position in the segment, bridging the gap between premium compact rivals and larger crossover models. Its crossover-style versatility extends from unique design appeal and a wide range of comfort, convenience, safety and dynamic features - along with an elevated ride height and high-stability drivetrain designed to give drivers an added level of confidence.
The 2017 Infiniti QX30 is available in six trim levels: QX30, QX30 Luxury, QX30 Premium, QX30 Sport, QX30 Luxury AWD and QX30 Premium AWD.
Stunningly Original, Undeniably Infiniti
Building on the bold Infiniti QX30 Concept that wowed auto show audiences around the world just two years ago, the QX30 premium active crossover was created for a new generation of premium buyers seeking a vehicle as versatile as their lifestyles.
"The category defying design of the QX30 stays true to the inspiration behind the daring QX30 Concept," said Infiniti Executive Design Director Alfonso Albaisa. "Its mix of artistry in the flowing lines, and power in the elevated stance and confident look, makes a bold visual statement and challenges current preconceptions of what a crossover should look like."
The combination of a low-slung roofline, high stance and crossover appearance creates a striking visual impact. The versatile look endows the QX30 with a "go-anywhere" attitude, ready to take on all driving conditions - without compromising the high quality finish that buyers associate with premium rivals.
The QX30 exterior is characterized by dramatic curves and turbulent, sculpted character lines that make an emotional statement, evolving them into new dynamic shapes for a more purposeful appearance. The double-arch grille with three-dimensional mesh draws a flowing, fluid link to the headlights for a more organic shape. The lines of the QX30 flow up the double-wave aluminium hood, over the fenders, across the bodyline and into the strong shoulders of the car.
The overall effect is designed to look stretched over bone and muscle, rather than the straight "mechanical" lines seen on rival models. Infiniti's signature C-pillar design forges a dynamic crescent shape that emphasises motion, even when stationary.
The elevated dimensions make for a confident and relaxing drive, while ascribing to the QX30's versatile character. The tall overall height helps improve forward visibility, aided by a slim A-pillar design, while the taller ride height allows for a higher hip point, improving ease of ingress and egress.
Standard exterior features include signature LED daytime running lights and auto on/off halogen headlights, with available LED headlights with Active Front lighting System (AFS) and auto high/low beam function and LED fog lights. In addition to the standard auto-dimming (driver's side), power-folding and heated outside mirrors with puddle lamps, a variety of treatments for the outside mirror housings (body-color, black, Satin Silver) are available to provide a more personalized appearance. A panoramic moonroof with power sunshade and roof rails are also offered.
The QX30 Sport includes unique front and rear lower fascias, gloss black grille, body-color side sill panels, chrome trunk finisher, dark chrome exhaust finishers, a lower ride height, sport suspension tuning, cross drilled front brake rotors and unique 19-inch aluminium-alloy wheels.
The QX30 Luxury AWD and QX30 Premium AWD also include unique front and rear lower fascias, extended overfenders, unique black mold-in color side sills, roof rails, unique 18-inch aluminium-alloy wheels and a 1.2-inch higher ride height than QX30 two-wheel drive.
The QX30 is offered in a choice of nine exterior colors: Black Obsidian, Blade Silver, Chestnut Bronze, Graphite Shadow, Ink Blue, Liquid Copper, Magnetic Red, Majestic White and Malbec Black.
Inside, living in asymmetry and comfort
The bold Infiniti design approach continues inside the stunning QX30, challenging traditional standards of symmetry with its expressive, modern and dynamic interior.
The asymmetric surfaces feature wave shapes and dynamic lines that twist apart and flow away from the driver. These give an "in-motion" feel when natural light moves over the highly sculpted lines and contrasting materials in the cabin.
"QX30's asymmetric interior design results in an environment focused on the driver, yet encompassing passengers in such a way as to involve and cater for them, more so than the traditionally isolating designs found in the premium segment," said Albaisa.
Premium materials and processes were selected by the Infiniti designers in order to create a modern-looking and luxurious cabin. The standard interior is finished in high quality black Fibretec, while optional black or beige Nappa leather appointments (standard on QX30 Luxury) deliver an even more premium finish.
Refinement and comfort is also a core appeal of the QX30's interior. Comfort is guaranteed thanks to an advanced seat design, which makes use of Infiniti's advanced "spinal support" research and "Zero Gravity" technology. The seat backs have been carefully engineered to match the curvature of the spine, providing consistent spinal support by more equally distributing load across the seat to minimise pressure on back muscles - while a wider fitting shape and soft seat cushion also provides enhanced support.
QX30 Luxury and Premium grades features 8-way power adjustable front seats with 4-way power-adjustable lumbar support. Heated front seats are standard on Luxury and Premium grades. The rear seat is a fold-flat, 60/40 split-folding design for added utility. A rear seat pass-through (ski hatch) is also available.
QX30 Sport features sport front seats with integrated headrests. The seats utilized leatherette and Dinamica material, while the stitched door and instrument panel trim also feature Dinamica, a suede-like material originally developed for the high-fashion industry. QX30 Sport also features flat bottom steering wheel and aluminium-trimmed pedals.
The QX30's attention to interior quietness adds to cabin comfort. The extensive application of sound-absorbent materials reduces the intrusion of wind, road and unwanted engine noise into the cabin. Closed sections of the high-rigidity body structure protect the QX30 from any negative noise and vibration generated by broken or inconsistent road surfaces.
The result is an incredibly quiet and refined platform, allowing Infiniti engineers to isolate and emphasise the more pleasant and enriching tones of the QX30's engines under acceleration, without disturbing the calm of the cabin.
As expected from any Infiniti, a full range of comfort and convenience features are available, including genuine wood trim, aluminium pedal finishers and auto entry/exit system with three-driver memory for both driver and passenger.
Standard on all models are Bluetooth(R) Hands-free Phone System, RearView Monitor, cruise control, power windows with front one-touch auto up/down with auto reverse, power door locks with selective unlocking, paddle shifters, auto-dimming inside rearview mirror, dual overhead map lights and rear dome light, Infiniti Intelligent Key, three 12-volt power outlets and Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control with rear seat vents on the console. Two USB ports allow phone charging while listening to music on a USB stick or drive.
Advanced audio, navigation and connectivity systems are also available, including a Bose(R) 10-speaker audio system and standard HD radio, SiriusXM(R) Satellite Radio (SiriusXM(R) subscription required, sold separately) and voice recognition for audio, Bluetooth(R) and vehicle information. Also standard is SiriusXM(R) Travel Link with access to weather, fuel prices, stocks, sports and movie times (SiriusXM(R) subscription required, sold separately).
Infiniti's InTouch(TM) infotainment system, first introduced on the Infiniti Q50, provides highly intuitive finger touch and swipe control through a 7.0-inch touch-screen HMI (human machine interface). Infiniti Voice Recognition interacts with the InTouch(TM) infotainment system to control audio and navigation commands.
The available Infiniti InTouch(TM) with Navigation system features lane guidance and 3D building graphics and voice recognition for navigation functions. The Infiniti InTouch(TM) Services offers six months of safety, security and convenience services, SiriusXM(R) Traffic, including real-time traffic information (SiriusXM(R) subscription required, sold separately).
Other available technology includes the advanced Around View(R) Monitor (AVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD) and Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC).
"The QX30 interior makes a bold design statement - supported by refined materials, an intuitive human machine interface and a range of advanced technologies," added Parker. "Throw in the versatility of its active crossover utility and it's an unbeatable combination."
A versatile attitude and drivetrain
Versatility is also an apt descriptor for the new QX30's advanced powertrain, which delivers a confidence-inspiring, dynamic driving experience aided by available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.
The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit is rated at 208 horsepower at 5,500 rpm, with peak torque of 258 lb-ft available from 1,200 - 4,400 rpm. This engine has been engineered to blend responsive performance with enhanced fuel efficiency. It features a lightweight aluminum block and cylinder head with chain-driven dual-overhead camshafts, die-cast aluminum cylinder crankcase and optimized crank assembly, resulting in further weight savings, reduced friction and improved efficiency. The QX30 also includes an idle stop-start system (ISS) in combination with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The engine was developed in conjunction with Daimler and is sourced from Kolleda, Germany.
All 2017 QX30 models feature a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission system. The dual-clutch intelligently pre-selects gears so the next shift is always ready to go, while manual mode lets the driver control gear changes when desired. Delivering seamless acceleration at any speed and in any gear, the application of torque is almost uninterrupted during gear changes, reducing lurching while in motion and between shifts. Paddle shifters are standard.
The QX30's chassis was developed to offer a comfortable ride and confident or both two-wheel and all-wheel drive models. Development teams responsible for QX30's ride and handling worked hard to ensure the car's dynamic characteristics met with buyers' expectations of a vehicle that has been engineered to bridge the gap between compacts and crossovers.
The front suspension is a MacPherson strut design with twin-tube shock absorbers, while the rear utilizes independent multi-link with rear monotube shocks. Stabilizer bars are used front and rear.
Steering is provided by an Electric Power Assisted (EPS) system and braking is a power-assisted 4-wheel disc design with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). QX30 Sport uses cross-drilled front rotors and Infiniti-branded calipers.
The QX30 Luxury AWD and QX30 Premium AWD models come equipped with an Infiniti's Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system. The drivetrain is able to send up to 50 percent of the engine's power and torque to the rear axle to maintain traction on slippery surfaces and in inclement weather, enhancing a feeling of control and confidence when driving. For example, if wheel slip is detected by sensors, braking is applied to the slipping wheel, while torque is sent to the gripping wheel for additional stability.
Intuitive technologies enhance an involving, safe driving experience
The 2017 QX30, as expected of any Infiniti, offers a range of active safety and hazard avoidance technologies that enhance the driving experience.
In a first for Infiniti, the QX30 Sport features the new Intelligent Park Assist system, which uses 12 sensors to determine if a potential parking spot is the right size. If it is, the driver simply presses a button to confirm and operate the accelerator, shifter and brake pedal. The QX30 will park itself smoothly in parallel or reverse-in parking spots*. Intelligent Park Assist is also available on all other QX30 models as part of the optional Technology Package.
"Combined with the Around View(R) Monitor with Moving Object Detection, the new QX30 is one of the easiest cars to park in its segment," said Parker.
Other available QX30 safety, security and driver's assistance features include Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Forward Emergency Braking (FEB).
The QX30 also includes dual-stage front supplemental air bags, front seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags, front knee supplemental air bags and roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags with rollover sensor.
