The Eyes On Design Automotive Design Exhibition is something unusual: an informal display of significant automobiles, without the obsession on absolutely correct restorations. In addition, Eyes on Design is a charitable organization that funds research for the Detroit Institute of Opthalmology (DIO). For 2008, a special section of the exhibition was reserved for the 100th anniversary of GM, with production and concept cars from the early 1900s to the 1970s. A few lightly restored GM pickups from the 1950s and 60s added some variety to the collection of classic cars. A selection of recent models from American, European, and Japanese manufacturers showed the tremendous progress in automotive design and manufacturing that occurred in the last decades of the 20th century.
