What Changed

Toyota's benchmark sedan is all-new for 1997. The new Camry is larger in almost every dimension than the model it replaces. Offered only in 4-door form, there are 3 trim levels for the new Camry: CE, LE and XLE. Both the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines are updated to produce more power. The DOHC I-4 now produces 133hp, while the DOHC V-6 is up to 194hp. All models utilize an electronic 4-speed automatic transmission. A 5-speed manual is available on CE models. ABS is now standard on all Camrys except the 4-cylinder CE. Camrys ride on 205/65HR15 tires for V-6 models and 195/75SR14 tires for the 4-cylinder versions. Traction control is available on LE and XLE models. The interior has been redesigned as well and features numerous improvements in convenience and sound isolation.
