BMW showcased a more powerful X5 HP for the 2001 NAIAS. A 4.6L V-8 replaces the 4.4L engine and generates 347-bhp/354 lb.-ft. A faster-shifting, recalibrated 5-speed Steptronic automanual is standard. BMW claims 0-62 mph in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph. The AWD X5 HP features Hill Descent Control, traction control (AST), and Dynamic Brake Control. Standard 20" wheels are equipped with fat 275/40R20 and 315/35R20 (F/R)tires. Xenon headlights are standard. Exclusive interior colors/materials combined with new exterior paint colors separate the X5 HP from lesser models.
