The X3 is BMW's compact SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle as BMW calls it) based on the 3 series platform. Engine options are the same as found in the 3 series sedans and coupes. The drivetrain utilizes the xdrive all-wheel drive system. Interior appointments are slightly sub-standard compared to other BMW's. Pricing of 30k for a compact SUV puts this vehicle in a class by itself as evidenced by good sales. The marketing strategy is geared to bring younger buyers, who can't afford the X5, onboard as a BMW customer.
