The Maserati Spyder shares the same platform as the Coupe, but in a stylish convertible body designed by Italdesign Giugiaro. In only 25 seconds, the power-operated fabric top lowers and stows neatly under a tonneau cover. Fixed roll bars behind the seats protect passengers in a roll-over accident. A standard 390-bhp 4.2L V-8 gives the Spyder GT to a top speed of 176 mph. An available Skyhook adaptive damping suspension enhances handling. The Spyder GT differs from the Coupe with a wheelbase that is 220 mm shorter, since it is strictly a 2-seater. A choice of a 6-speed manual (Spyder GT), or paddle shifters with electronically controlled clutch (Spyder Cambiocorsa) is available. For comfortable cruising with Italian style, the Maserati Spyder has few rivals.
