The Jeep Commander is for enthusiasts of the old bricklike Cherokee. Although the Commander is significantly larger (and offers 3rd row seats), there is no mistaking the Cherokee roots in its styling. A 3.7L V-6 is standard, but the Commander also offers optional 4.7L and 5.7L HEMI (R) V-8 engines. Four-wheel drive system choices include: Quadra-Trac (R), Quadra-Trac II (R), and Quadra-Drive II (R). Unlike the old Cherokee, the Commander can be equipped with a full complement of safety features such as: Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and an All-Speed Traction Control System (TCS). The Commander is based on the Grand Cherokee platform, but is 2 inches longer.

What Changed:

The all-new Commander features more traditional Jeep styling and three rows of seating. Based on the Grand Cherokee platform, Commander offers the same powertrains including a 3.7L V6, 4.7L V8 and 5.7L Hemi V8.
