Lotus has created the APX (Aluminium Performance Crossover) as a concept vehicle to highlight its new Versatile Vehicle Architecture platform. This innovative platform uses bonded, riveted, and glued aluminum components as part of its structure. As a crossover SUV, the 4WD APX can carry 7-passengers, although the rear seats are not intended for frequent use. Lotus equips the APX with a 300-bhp supercharged 3.0L V-6 designed in-house. Lotus would like to sell this engine, and its smaller displacement variants to interested automakers. With only 1570 kg to haul around, the V-6 can accelerate the APX from 0-60 mph in only 5.0 seconds, and keep going to a top speed of 152 mph. Lotus estimates highway mileage of 32 mpg, which compares favorably to many compact sedans.
