Audi took the VW Golf platform and transformed it into the taut A3, a true autobahn stormer in a compact package. All this performance and capability comes at a price, because a loaded A3 3.2 quattro costs almost as much as a comparably equipped A4 3.2 quattro. Enthusiasts may be swayed to the A3 3.2 quattro because of its lighter weight, slick DSG transmission (unavailable on the A4), and sharp handling. In any case, buyers won't see too many examples of the A3 in hatchback-averse America.
