First Drive: 2006 Volkswagen GTI 2.0T

The VW GTI arguably originated the compact sport hatchback segment in 1983. Over the years, this category expanded to include coupes and sedans from other manufacturers, but the GTI remained true to its hatchback origins. The latest GTI is arguably the best one yet, equipped with a smooth, responsive 2.0L turbo and a choice of a 6-speed manual or DSG automatic. We had an opportunity to drive the GTI on the track, the best place to experience its capabilities.
