A competitive compact car from Chevrolet, the Cobalt is far removed from its dated Cavalier predecessor. Two normally aspirated 4-cylinder engines (2.2L and 2.4L) are available. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. ABS is standard on upper Cobalt models. Side-curtain airbags are optional, and traction control is standard on ABS/automatic equipped vehicles. A Pioneer audio system is available.

What Changed:

Trim designations have been simplified to LS, LT, Sport, and SS. Cobalt SS models switch to a 260 hp turbocharged four-cylinder. The SS package also includes aggressive wheels, tires and bodywork. In April, 2008 Chevrolet added a 2.2L XFE designated model with increased fuel economy. The Cobalt XFE is only offered on LS and 1LT models.
