The Rondo is a best described as a tall station wagon designed to haul up to 7 passengers in a smaller package than a minivan. Kia offers a choice of a 2.4L inline-4 or a 2.7L V-6, although the larger engine is only slightly more powerful. However, the 5-speed automatic available on the V-6 allows it to achieve the same highway mileage as the smaller 2.4L engine. The base Rondo undercuts its direct rival, the Mazda5 by several thousand dollars, but the V-6 EX model is priced comparably to the Mazda. The Rondo can be loaded up with options such as heated leather seats, 315-watt audio system, sunroof, body kit, and folding 3rd row seats. Kia has positioned the Rondo as an affordable and compact alternative to minivans. For under $20K, the Rondo is a fine value as a family hauler.
