The subcompact SX4 SUV is based on the same platform as the Suzuki Swift sedan. According to Suzuki, the SX4 name is derived from (S)port (X)-over for (4) seasons. The SX4 fits below the Grand Vitara SUV in Suzuki's vehicle portfolio. A standard 2.0L inline-4 sends power to all four wheels via a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The AWD system has a differential lock to enhance traction at low speed on slippery surfaces. Suzuki aims the SX4 as an alternative to the inexpensive SUVs from Korean manufacturers.
