The U.S. C-Max line consists of five-passenger hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. Both pair a gasoline engine with an electric motor and a battery pack for parallel hybrid operation. The Energi plug-in hybrid also allows the battery packs to be charged and used for electric-only driving to save fuel. Both models use Lithium-ion battery cells.
