The Toyota Highlander was one of the first SUVs to fit the definition of a car-based crossover SUV. On the inside, the Highlander contains three rows of seats for up to 8 passengers. Due to its smaller exterior, the Highlander is smaller in the third row and cargo area than its competitors. The base engine is a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine. A more powerful 270-bhp 3.5L V6 is optional on lower trim levels and standard on the top Limited model. One area that sets the Highlander apart is the optional gasoline/electric hybrid model.
